EQA FAQ

Is there any assistance by the EMCC for assembling our application?

The EMCC does not assist to retain impartiality. However, it is possible to obtain consultancy with a coach who is a trained and who usually acts as assessor for the EQA. A consultant will not act as assessor or verifier for applications for which they have provided consultancy.

Is the assessment of our application kept confidential?

All applications are handled with strict confidentiality. All assessors have signed a confidentiality agreement with the EMCC.

I am designing a new training programme. When can it be accredited?

A programme must have run for one full cycle before the application can be submitted. This enables programme evaluation by the organisation and facilitators and includes delegate feedback.

What will it cost?

To ensure the market place credibility of this Quality Award, we take an independent approach and aim to raise the standards in the profession, we use a robust assessment process, comprehensive and high standards, trained assessors, and rigourous quality checking. This means that the EQA award has real credibility in the market place and the price will reflect this independence and quality. You can get details of costs by downloading the EQA Information booklet – click here

Why do I need to get an award for my programme?

Purchasers of coach mentoring training want to understand the quality and category and level of training they are buying. Increasingly tenders are insisting upon respective EMCC categories and standards.

What are the benefits of having an award?

The award is a mark of recognition that your programme has been designed and will be delivered to a recognised level of excellence. This will reassure your clients and give you a competitive advantage over other providers who do not choose to get the award.

How are training programmes assessed?

You apply via the EMCC for an award for your programme based on the respective category and level. You will then be allocated a link assessor and assessor team. Assessors are experienced coach/mentors who have then been highly trained as assessors. The link assessor will then work with you to ensure your programme is presented in the appropriate way and sufficient and relevant evidence is provided. Consultancy is available in advance if you would like help to get your programme to the respective standard.

How do I apply for an award?

Details are available by clicking here.

How can I base the design of my programme on these standards?

Working with the Skills Practice /Study hours and the Capability Indicators should give you a clear idea of the elements necessary for programmes that will deliver against the respective categories. Remember the learning and content is cumulative so Senior Practitioners are expected to have the capabilities and experience equivalent to a Foundation, Practitioner coach/mentor as well as those for Senior Practitioner. This means your programme must cover the core elements at previous levels or ensure your entry criteria for the programme are rigorous.

Can I get help to find out if my programme will meet the standard?

Consultancy can be arranged at commercially competitive rates. Please contact the EQA Manager to discuss

How do these standards help me to design an in-company programme?

For most organisational contexts the Foundation category will identify the competencies required for functional leader/managers and the in-company scheme coordinators. The respective skills and practice levels defined, combined with the Capability Indicators for Foundation coach/mentoring should provide a comprehensive set of training needs.

How do these awards qualify me as an individual coach/mentor?

The EQA award is for the training programme, not the individual. Our EIA European Individual Accreditation of coach/mentors recognises your own individual ability.

What authority does EMCC have to issue these standards?

EMCC is an independent and impartial body of nationally and internationally recognised experts in the field of coach mentoring who have worked in cooperation with many other related and interested organisations to develop best practice for the profession. The standards have then been developed based on the largest programme of research on coach/mentoring competencies combined with agreed best practice levels of real-time coach/mentoring experience.

Does the award last indefinitely or do I need to re-apply?

The quality awards include an annual review and 5 year re-assessment.

If I complete a programme that has subsequently received an award does that entitle me to claim I’ve been through a quality awarded training programme?

Unfortunately, we are not able to guarantee the earlier programme (pre EQA award) met the requirements of the award.

How do these standards compare with the standards of other coaching and mentoring organisations?

The standards have been developed in cooperation with many other standard setting bodies and respective critical criteria have been integrated. The process of consultation and continuing integration of best practice throughout Europe has been ongoing and these standards were reviewed and updated in 2009

Do these standards relate to all types of coaches and mentors?

Currently, the requirements for sports coaches and life coaches have not been overlaid against these standards. We believe most other situations can be examined for context from the table in the Information Booklet
